Used consumer electronics represent less than two percent of the municipal solid waste stream. In 2005, discarded tv’s’ pc’s’ peripherals (including printers, scanners, faxes), mice, keyboards and cell phones totaled about 2 million tons. Of that, about 80-85% (1.5 to 1.9 million tons) was discarded, primarily in landfills.

Lead, mercury, cadmium and brominated flame retardants are among the substances of concern in electronics. These substances are included in the products for important performance characteristics, but can cause problems if the products are not properly managed at end of life. Lead is used in glass in TV and PC cathode ray tubes as well as solder and interconnects; older CRTs typically contain on average 4 lbs of lead (sometimes as much as 7 lbs in older CRTs), while newer CRTs contain closer to 2 lbs of lead. Mercury is used in small amount in bulbs to light flat panel computer monitors and notebooks. Brominated flame retardants are widely used in plastic cases and cables for fire retardancy; the more problematic ones have been phased out of newer products but remain in older products. Cadmium was widely used in ni-cad rechargeable batteries for laptops and other portables. Newer batteries (nickel-metal hydride and lithium ion) do not contain cadmium. PVC is used in wire and cable sheathing.

Most cell phones that are collected in the US go either to a charitable organization for reuse or to a relatively small number of US companies who refurbish them for reuse and recycle those that cannot be reused. Although there is some markets for used cell phones in the US (such as domestic abuse programs), the principal markets for used and refurbished cell phones are in Latin America and South America. The marketing of used cell phones in these developing economies avails many people the access to modern communication technology who would not otherwise be able to afford it. In nearly all cases, collected cell phones that are obsolete or irreparable are sent to environmentally sound smelters in Canada or Europe for recovery of copper and precious metals.

Almost all of the materials used to manufacture a cell phone can be recovered to make new products. Metals, plastics, batteries and the packaging materials can be recycled and turned into new products. Cell phones contain a number of different metals – gold, silver, platinum, palladium, rhodium, copper, tin, lead, brass and zinc – that can be extracted and recovered in the recycling process. The recovered metals can be used by a number of different industries such as jewelry, plating, electronics, plumbing, automotive, and art foundries. Products that can be manufactured from the recovered materials include automotive catalytic converters, plumbing faucets and piping, and gold or silver jewelry. The plastic on the cell phone can also be recycled. It can be recycled into new products as garden furniture, license plate frames, non-food containers and replacement automotive parts. Due to its high thermal value, the plastic could alternatively be used as a fuel. The cell phone packaging materials can also be recycled and made as a component of fiber board manufacture. When the rechargeable battery can no longer be reused, the battery can be recycled into other rechargeable battery products.

Bad packaging is the ONLY reason why that happens. It does not matter if it breaks on the way to us or on the way back to you. We use your packaging and your packaging material to ship the laptop back. Please don’t complain if you get a laptop back with a broken or non working screen because you haven’t provided enough packaging. So it wouldn’t come as a surprise it does not matter how much you insure your laptop for, the broken screen on the laptop sent for repair is not covered by any insurance (UPS, USPS, or FedEx), and there is no way you will get any money for a broken screen. Flat rate boxes provided by USPS are the number one reason why the screen gets broken. Please use a ton of bubble around your laptop. No bubble wrap or not enough bubble wrap means a broken screen. Insurance only covers if the package will disappear somewhere in transition from point A to point B, that NEVER happened in the last 13 years of our company’s operation. If the laptop will get delivered to your door steps and somebody would take it from your doorsteps then insurance does not cover that either. Please do not put AC power adapter / power brick on top of the screen when shipping the laptop to us, put the power adapter to the side of the laptop. The point is please package your laptop VERY WELL. imagine that UPS, USPS and Fedex are professional Soccer players, imagine that your box (with the laptop inside) is the ball they play with, if you think that the laptop inside of the box will survive a soccer match, twice (on the way to us and on the way back) then feel free to ship it over.

Yes with your own label on it, or take a pic to test out your system we would need to have your AC DC power adapter, however if you are missing an AC DC adapter we still can work on it and test out your computer using our adapters but we cannot guarantee that your AC adapter will work fater the repair…or fit properly with the new JACK installed. In addition if your Power plug on your AC adapter is damaged or broken or shortens we can try to repair it at no extra charge.

Sometimes that happens too. We are not going to charge you anything unless your laptop will be working fine when it leaves our place. There are exceptions to that rule, if we receive your laptop and there is no obvious damage, cracks, wobbling etc… with the DC jack and you “just think” it is a DC jack then we are going to charge you the full amount regardless of the outcome (working or not working computer), we will take pictures of before and after just to prove the point that we did replace your jack. Also, if you have tried to take your laptop apart or tried to fix a power plug yourself, or tried to remove a dc power jack yourself then again we are going to charge you the full amount regardless of the outcome.

Calls like that come in all the time. The hardest part and the most time consuming is not taking your laptop apart, nor it is putting it back together, neither it is soldering the new jack to the motherboard. The time consuming part is de-soldering your old DC jack without damaging the motherboard it usually takes more than an hour to properly / safely remove the DC jack from the board.

We provide a lifetime warranty on all DC jacks that we replace. If you will ever break your jack again within 30days only, we will replace it at no charge. We will only replace it once. You are covered by warranty for as long as you are using a factory AC power adapter, if you use any universal power adapters the warranty is void. That is the reason we ask everyone to send a factory power adapter with your laptop so that we could fix the plug on it if it is faulty, there is no charge for it.
